Facial Muscle Relaxation FAQ

📌 This article is for general informational purposes only and does not promote or advertise prescription-only medicines. All procedures involving prescription products are subject to medical consultation and clinical appropriateness.

  • Muscle relaxation procedures involve a medical intervention where a clinician may temporarily reduce activity in specific facial muscles. This treatment is performed only after a comprehensive consultation and assessment by a trained healthcare provider.

  • The procedure typically involves a purified protein administered by a qualified practitioner. The specific approach will be explained during your consultation, where your clinician will discuss how it works, potential outcomes, and considerations relevant to your context.

  • These procedures may be considered for individuals experiencing:

    • Defined expression lines

    • Persistent muscle activity

    • Early signs of facial aging

A thorough assessment helps determine if such an approach may be appropriate for you.

  • Often, the approach involves a structured treatment plan. It’s common to schedule follow-up sessions approximately 10 to 12 weeks apart, based on your individual response and aesthetic goals.

  • Some clients may notice brief discomfort such as a mild pinch. Our experienced clinical team prioritises your comfort and will explain every step before proceeding.

  • Common, temporary responses may include:

    • Mild redness or tenderness

    • Light bruising (often near areas with delicate blood vessels)

    • Rare occurrences like headaches or slight swelling

These will be discussed during your appointment to ensure transparency and informed consent.

  • Some clients observe initial changes right away. However, full integration of the treatment may take up to two weeks. Your practitioner will provide realistic timelines based on your skin’s individual response.

  • When performed by AHPRA-registered practitioners with appropriate training and experience, these treatments are considered low-risk. However, it’s essential to disclose your medical history, medications, and any relevant conditions to your provider to support safe outcomes.

  • Treatment is not recommended during pregnancy or while breastfeeding, due to limited safety data. Be sure to notify your clinician of your status before considering any treatment.

  • No. These treatments differ significantly from procedures aimed at enhancing facial volume or structure. Each method is suited to specific needs and outcomes and will be discussed thoroughly during your consultation.

  • Anti-wrinkle injections are not recommended during pregnancy or whilst breastfeeding. We implement this as a precaution as there is very limited research currently available to determine that it is safe to receive anti-wrinkle injectable treatments during this period.

You will need to disclose if you are pregnant or breastfeeding prior to receiving this treatment to ensure our injectable nurses follow a strict protocol. Your treatment will subsequently result in being cancelled if you fail to consider this prior to booking an appointment. This is in the best interest of you, your body, and your baby.
