Microdermabrasion FAQ

  • During crystal microdermabrasion, micro-fine crystals are shot from a small tube onto your skin and simultaneously vacuumed back up. Think of this as working like a high-powered scrub that sheds the old layers of the skin to reveal a more youthful appearance.

Just one microdermabrasion treatment leaves the skin feeling soft and smooth and looking radiant. A series of treatments can improve skin's texture and tone and reduce fine wrinkles, sun damage, acne/acne scars, enlarged pores and even stretch marks.

  • -Fine Lines and Wrinkles

    -Sun-Induced Pigmentation

    -Acne Scarring

    -Enlarged Pores

    -Stretch Marks

    -Dry lack lustre Skin

  • -Get Fresh Looking And Smoother Skin

Microdermabrasion is a treatment that gently exfoliates and removes the skin’s impurities using a professional, cosmetic vacuum suction device. Fresher-looking, smoother skin is achieved by buffering away dead surface skin and debris, clearing congestion, reducing blackheads, and encouraging a healthy cell turnover.

    -Diminished Fine Lines And Wrinkles

The Microdermabrasion treatment will help diminish wrinkles by stimulating your skin cells to naturally produce more collagen.

Microdermabrasion will minimise fine lines through the combination of encouraging collagen stimulation and increasing skin renewal. Fine lines will improve through the gentle vacuum suction improving the skin’s surface, and smoothing out impurities.

-Achieve A Brighter Skin Tone And Complexion

Removing old skin cells helps reveal new, fresh, glowing skin underneath the surface level. This ultimately helps leave your skin with a brighter skin tone and complexion, particularly after repeated maintenance treatments.

    -Minimise The Size Of Pores

Microdermabrasion helps target enlarged pores. The oil and bacteria from the skin are removed through vacuum suction, making way for new skin. After exfoliating the skin, it is encouraged to heal itself through the production of collagen, bringing way for a youthful complexion with shrunken pores.

-Reduced The Appearance Of Age Spots

During a Microdermabrasion procedure, your clinician will smooth away age spots.

A recent study by the AAD showed that 40% of patients saw their age spots completely disappear after having Microdermabrasion once every two weeks for 16 weeks.

-Stimulate Skin Cell Recovery To Reduce Scars

Microdermabrasion helps reduce facial scarring as it exfoliates the skin, leaving way for new, emerging skin. After several procedures, your scars will begin to fade, and your skin will take on a more permanent, even tone.

  • Redness is a common side effect but you may also find the skin has a tingling sensation post-treatment. Another common side effect is visible skin changes in pigment especially in those who tan regularly as the top layer of skin is shed away during the treatment essentially scrubbing away your tan and revealing a pinkish or white fresh skin from beneath.

  • First, the skin undergoes a thorough cleanse to soften the upper layers of the skin, opening pores as a result. Your clinician then uses a handheld cosmetic vacuum suction device that targets specific areas of the skin.

This device continues to vacuum up any excess crystals while simultaneously helping stimulate circulation. This movement encourages nutrients and oxygen to the epidermis.

The crystals used within this procedure are solely responsible for removing dead skin cells and eliminating impurities.

As a result, this treatment increases collagen and elastin production, improving cellular regeneration and promoting a healthy blood flow.

  • The amount of Microdermabrasion treatments needed depends on the type of skin being treated. Typically to achieve optimal results, it is recommended and suggested to have a Microdermabrasion treatment every 2 to 4 weeks.

A consistent maintenance routine allows your skin to keep glowing and producing better results.

Overall to implement lasting results, having approximately 6 to 12 sessions will give your skin the best results, helping to truly transform the look and feel of your skin for the better!

  • Following a Microdermabrasion treatment, it is recommended to clean your face using a wet cloth which allows a natural, rehydrating toner and removes any remaining dead skin cells or other impurities. Use a gentle moisturiser once you have thoroughly dried your face.

Continue this same routine for the next 4-6 days following treatment to prevent excessive peeling, and to promote healthy healing.

  • Microdermabrasion is a pain-free procedure which means it doesn’t hurt. However, you may feel mild discomfort at most, depending on your pain tolerance level.

Many clients don’t experience any pain, they describe it as a “gritty facial massage”, or “gentle exfoliation treatment” with others suggesting it feels like “a minor tug of the skin”.

  • Microdermabrasion treatment can take anywhere between 30 minutes to 45 minutes, depending on the requested treatment area.

Microdermabrasion can be accompanied by a facial mask and massage as a gentle skin treatment. This will add a few additional minutes to the treatment session, resulting in 45 minutes to an hour in duration.

  • Microdermabrasion can help with dull or sallow skin, minor acne, acne discolouration, pick marks, and very superficial acne scars. Microdermabrasion may be a useful treatment choice for people with superficial skin concerns and busy lifestyles who want minor results with little downtime or side effects. Individuals with deeper acne scars may require a much longer series of treatments or may benefit from other services we provide at OHMYBROW such as skin needling.

  • Microdermabrasion is a minimally invasive, nonsurgical technique. There's not much you need to do to get ready.

It's a good idea to talk to our skin care specialist at OHMYBROW about your skin conditions to see whether microdermabrasion is suited for you. Talk about any previous cosmetic treatments and operations, as well as allergies and medical issues.

For about a week before treatment, you may be advised to avoid sun exposure, tanning lotions, and waxing. You may also be recommended to discontinue the use of exfoliating lotions and masks 3 days before the treatment.
